Faced with the urgent need to expand LNG import capacity in Germany, Worley turned to EnerMech to deliver the Elbehafen LNG Regas Facility on a fast-track schedule. Mobilized at very short notice, EnerMech led early systemization, CMS development, and commissioning planning. Our team supported every major phase—from design to operation—executing all pre-commissioning, commissioning, and start-up activities, managing vendors and sub-contractors, and ensuring safe, efficient delivery. The result: a seamless transition from construction to operation—on time, on scope, and aligned with Germany’s energy security goals.

The Challenge

The demand for liquified natural gas (LNG) is on a strong upward trajectory as countries around the globe seek alternative forms of energy in line with the energy transition.

Ongoing geopolitical tensions meant Germany needed to reduce their reliance on Russian gas imports, but they didn't have direct access to the LNG market.

EnerMech OTS has global experience and world-leading expertise servicing the LNG industry, so we knew our team was well-placed to handle this fast-tracked project.

The Solution

For phase one, we constructed the necessary technical infrastructure at Brunsbuttel port to accommodate a floating storage and regasification unit (FSRU). Speed and safety were a top priority, but fast-tracking this project was about more than just pulling the timeline forward. It required advanced planning followed by detailed execution and effective teamwork to make it work.

Our full life-cycle offering meant we were able to integrate a team of commissioning experts at Elbehafen who can take the project from construction through to handover. We used the OTS CMS Hexagon project management database system to ensure detailed delivery and reporting structure throughout the project life-cycle. And the scope of work allowed sub-contractors to work on multiple areas, equipment and systems simultaneously and safely.

The Outcome

The client trusted us throughout the entire process which meant we were able to deliver the project efficiently, accurately and safely.

Establishing the LNG import terminal will not only help Germany reduce its reliance on a single provider but will also help the country maintain a more sustainable source of energy, in line with its wider energy transition strategy.
