EnerMech supported Scottish and Southern Energy (SSE) with the refurbishment of a 70-year-old overhead crane at Grudie Bridge Power Station in the Scottish Highlands. With critical generator upgrades underway, the crane required urgent modernisation to ensure safe and reliable lifting operations.

Our team delivered a phased programme of work, including structural inspections, mechanical replacements, and the installation of a wireless remote control system. All works were completed safely and on schedule, extending the crane’s operational life by over 30 years and aligning it with modern safety and performance standards.

Key Highlights

  • Pre-works survey and structural inspections to assess upgrade requirements

  • Replacement of ropes, hook blocks, and travel motors to restore mechanical integrity

  • Installation of wireless remote control system for improved safety and usability

  • Commissioning, function, and load testing to verify performance

  • Over 30 years of extended crane life through targeted refurbishment
