Today, Wednesday, March 8, the world comes together to honor International Women’s Day. To celebrate the achievements of EnerMech’s leading women, we will be sharing their stories and why days like this are so important to recognize.

With a wealth of expertise across its operations in 28 countries, EnerMech places talent and culture at the heart of its activities. This includes ensuring a diverse mix of colleagues, all with a high level of skill and experience, to deliver an integrated and varied program of work for clients, 24/7.

Providing equal opportunities is pivotal for building sustainable career paths to both retain personnel and develop future industry leaders—especially at EnerMech.

Phil Ogden, Chief HR Officer, commented:
“We are proud of the talent we have in each region and have placed people at the center of our 2023 business strategy, as we believe that diversity and inclusion are fundamental to attracting and retaining personnel and driving our success.

All over the world, we have exceptional women motivating others and delivering fantastic work that is helping to shape our business for continued growth.”

“This International Women’s Day, we are celebrating some of our exceptional female team members who have carved their own paths and are inspiring others. It’s important on days like today to recognize the journey they’ve made so far and provide a platform for them to share their advice and encourage others across Team EnerMech and the wider industry.”

Tia Holt – Apprentice Sheet Metal Fabricator Light and a Menang Noongar Indigenous Woman
Tia studied the Noongar culture through her school’s Indigenous girls’ program, “Girls Academy,” which provided a safe space to build friendships and encourage success. After graduating, she worked in retail until age 17 before joining EnerMech as an apprentice sheet metal fabricator light. She wanted a hands-on role that matched her passions.

Tia’s standout moment so far was being named Apprentice of the Year—the only female to receive the award, and after only a short time in the role.

EnerMech has supported Tia’s journey on-site. Her leader provides guidance and advocates for her development. As an Indigenous woman, a culturally supportive workplace is important. Her mentor reassures her that it’s okay to be herself and express her culture.

Her advice:
“Don’t be afraid or second-guess what you think the outcome will be—it could be different. Be vocal, tougher, and yourself.”

On this year’s theme, ‘Embrace Equity’:
“I was really shy at the beginning, so the team taught me to use my initiative and not wait to be asked. It’s about give and take in the workplace and accommodating each other’s strengths and weaknesses.”

Claire McKay – Proposals Coordinator
“I joined EnerMech because I was looking for career growth, and my previous employer didn’t offer the opportunities I wanted.”

Claire transitioned from administrative roles in the property industry—where she won State and National Receptionist of the Year—into a fast-paced proposals environment. EnerMech has supported her with training and mentorship.

Her reflection on International Women’s Day:
“It’s a day to reflect on how far we’ve come, but also to recognize how far we still have to go. It’s a chance to highlight issues and acknowledge the challenges women face in male-dominated industries.”

Her advice:
“Just do it. Make the change.”

Zenith Dumbleton – Apprentice Fitter and Turner
Zenith previously worked in retail and team leadership roles but wanted a long-term career outside her comfort zone. Now an apprentice fitter and turner, she works on key gas plant projects.

EnerMech has supported her development by giving her on-site opportunities and increasing responsibilities.

Her advice:
“Take every opportunity—you never know where it could lead. Even in a male-dominated industry, you can be respected and learn a lot.”

On International Women’s Day:
“It means the gap is closing. Men are embracing people like me in the workplace. We’re one step closer to a gender-equal environment.”

Client feedback from John Morton, Frontline Maintenance Planner:
“Zenith’s initiative and innovative thinking have improved efficiency in our PSV maintenance campaign. Her contributions have been widely recognized.”

Kasey Hawkins – NDT Trainee / Technical Assistant
After working in hospitality, retail, and volunteering, Kasey joined EnerMech as an NDT trainee following a shutdown project that sparked her interest.

Passing qualifications and being recognized by colleagues have been key milestones. She credits her mentors for helping her grow in a traditionally male-dominated field.

Her advice:
“It can be overwhelming, but having someone to mirror and ask questions is a great way to learn. I’m lucky to bounce ideas around with different bosses.”

On International Women’s Day:
“It’s a time to appreciate how far women have come in gaining power and voice, and to bring awareness to the challenges we’ve faced—and still face.”
