From Canada to Australia, Guyana to Angola, and at multiple locations in between, EnerMech’s integrated solutions are enabling safe and efficient LNG operations around the world.
During the week of Gastech 2025 and its theme of ‘Powering a Sustainable Energy Future’, Ahmed, Yosry Mohamed, (Yos), our VP of Infrastructure & Industrial Solutions, has highlighted how the company has supported the Chevron-operated at Gorgon and Wheatstone natural gas facilities.
Crucial to Australia’s standing as a worldwide leader in LNG are two developments that position the country as a global energy powerhouse.
Gorgon on Barrow Island, 60 km off the north-west coast of Australia, is a three-train, 15.6 million ton-per-annum (MTPA) LNG facility and domestic gas plant. It has the capacity supply 300 terajoules of gas per day to Western Australia.
Wheatstone, meanwhile, is located 12km west of Onslow on the Polbara coast. It has two trains with a combined capacity of 8.9 MTPA and a domestic gas plant.
Since 2020, EnerMech’s Infrastructure and Industrial Solutions service line has supported Chervon across the two sites. on:
Large scale nitrogen services to assist shutdown, cleanup and free the plant of oxygen prior to re-energization
Hydrostatic pressure testing to support the primary maintenance contractor scope of works
Specialist pneumatic testing services of piping and vessels
Heated nitrogen supply and purging activities
Asset management and procurement of hoses to supply across Chevron’s facilities.
Enabling turnaround
In 2025, a planned maintenance event, took place at Gorgon, which began with detailed engineering, followed by pre-event onsite set up before with execution in mid-2025.
In response, EnerMech prepared:
6000scfm dryers, specifically designed and manufactured within EnerMech to support spread requirements for Chevron’s LNG plant shutdowns
The largest fleet of nitrogen membranes within Australia, including 4000scfm units
And temperature and pressure controls for our temporary equipment spreads for automated shutdown to protect the customers systems.
In particular, production of the dryers allowed a reduced plot area on site to meet the client’s space requirements.
Building on strong foundations
As well as increasing and enabling continuous nitrogen supply reliability via the supply of membranes rather than liquid, EnerMech’s multi-disciplined personnel supported requirements across membrane operations, liquid operations, hydrostatic pressure testing and pneumatic testing activities.
Equipment spreads included a defrost unit (8000 scfm at 95% N₂ purity, heated using a steam boiler and nitrogen membrane generation units), an MRU (2000 scfm at 99% N₂ purity, heated via steam boiler and liquid nitrogen convertors), and an MCHE low- and high-pressure test spread incorporating air compressors, air dryers, coalescer filtration, and HP booster compressors.
