Stage 3 Offshore Crane Operator

The stage 3 assessment progression is designed as an evaluation of the candidates’ skill as a crane operator, usually after completing 40 hours of crane operations. The assessment evaluates the competencies of the candidate operating the crane, as per stage 2, but also concentrates on the planning and understanding of the lifting process.

Stage 2 Offshore Crane Operator

Stage 2 training should follow as soon as is practicable after Stage 1 training. This training aims to give the Trainee Crane Operator hands-on training in the offshore crane that he will be expected to operate.

On completion of stage 2 the Trainee or Assistant Crane Operator will be restricted to deck work, under supervision of the Installation Crane Operator. If appropriate, and when deemed competent to progress to vessel work (usually after approx 40 hours deck work) the Operator will be reassessed and may then progress to supervised vessel work.

Stage 1 Offshore Crane Operator

Stage 1 forms the theoretical basis for offshore crane operations and is aimed at novice crane operators or those operators who require the industry accepted qualification. Stage 2 should follow as soon as possible after stage 1 and is conducted at the trainee’s normal offshore installation.

Offshore Crane Operator 2 Yearly Reassessment

The purpose of this course is to re-assess the competence of existing stage 2 or stage 3 offshore crane operators to meet the recommendations of BS7121 Part 11.

Gantry Crane Operator Training or Assessment

There are two levels for this training. The one day course is intended as an assessment of competence for an existing gantry crane operator. The two day course is intended for novice operators with little or no experience in using gantry cranes.

Operators will be trained or assessed in the safe use of a gantry cranes and associated lifting accessories.
